Technical Tours

A number of technical tours have been put together for delegates of the Velo-city conference. You can register for these tours at the Information Desk during the conference. Limited spaces are available for each tour, so ensure you sign up early!

S2S Cycleway on Clontarf Road

A guided cycling tour (pick up at the Convention Centre) of the 2km long cycle track recently constructed located 6km from the Convention Centre.

 

The 2km coastal tour route, is part of the proposed 22km Sutton to Sandyford - (S2S) route and runs along Dublin Bay.

  • Dublin Bay is designated as a Natura 2000 Site (SAC & SPA).

  • In 2015 Dublin Bay was named a reserve by UNESCO in recognition of the area's unique ecological habitat and biodiversity.  This is the only biosphere reserve in the world which includes a capital city within its area.

  • The tour will pass through the last remains of a tram shelter dating back to the 1870’s when horse drawn trams ran from the City Centre to Dollymount.

Cycle Parking in the City

A guided tour by bike starting at the Convention Centre that will take Delegates to Dublin City Council’s recently expanded Cycle Parking Facility in Drury Street Car Park. 

 

Along the way delegates will be shown some of the City’s more recent cycle  interventions including:

 

  • a novel bike parking system being trialled by Dublin’s Smart City Unit,

  • a new cycle track along the south Campshires and

  • Contra-Flow cycling facility currently under construction on Lombard Street East.

Grand Canal Cycle Route

A guided cycling tour (pick up at the Convention Centre) of the 3.6km cycle route that Dublin City Council constructed along the northern bank of the Grand Canal. This was a demonstration project for further schemes within the city to provide a dramatic improvement in cycling infrastructure and help encourage all ages to cycle within the city.

Velo-city 2019 Google EMEA Headquarters Site Visit

Velo-city 2019 is proud to present to delegates our Google EMEA Headquarters Site Visit on kick-off day, 25th of June 2019.

Delegates with have the option to experience the heart and feel of Dublin’s thriving ‘Silicon Docklands’, with a lunchtime site visit to Google’s EMEA Headquarters. Hear first hand, on Google’s newest cycle data innovations, comparing bike adoption and travel insight comparisons from 2017 to 2018. You’ll also be hearing about the state of affairs on existing Intelligent Transport Systems and geolocation data insights, in Dublin Ireland, and across cities in Europe. Finally, you’ll get a first glance of the best cycle innovation companies taking stage, with their warm up pitches for the first ever #SmartPedalPitch, for a chance to win cash, prizes and deployment in Dublin City. The site visit will be capped off with a networking session among delegates over lunch and refreshments.

We have 40 tickets available for this Velo-city 2019 Google EMEA Headquarters Site Visit. They can be reserved on a first-come-first-serve basis for existing delegates of Velo-city 2019.
